2020 CR-V Hybrid Earns Top Safety Pick Honors

Drivers of the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid have a new reason to be happy with their decision to buy or lease the new model.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced that the 4-door SUV earned a Top Safety Pick (TSP) rating, joining the rest of the CR-V lineup which have all received similar recognition.

For the 2020 model year, the Japanese automaker decided to include a suite of safety tech features standard on all trim levels of the CR-V, which was instrumental in earning the awards. Officially branded as “Honda Sensing,” the technology includes:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Pedestrian Detection
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

IIHS bestowed TSP recognition to a total of 64 cars and SUVs for the 2020 model year. Standards to meet this honor have never been higher as the third-party nonprofit is prioritizing the protection of pedestrians as well as vehicle occupants.

Driving is an inherently dangerous activity, even for the most responsible drivers on the road. That’s why automakers are spending a substantial amount of time and resources into developing safer vehicles with each passing year. Only the safest models are recognized by the IIHS since their testing methods are rigid and conducted by experts in auto safety.

A press release from Honda states that every vehicle in its lineup also benefits from Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure. This design choice is used to protect occupants in a wide variety of frontal collisions, along with advanced supplemental restraint systems.

In order to earn a 2020 TSP award, the model must earn a “good” crashworthiness rating along with an “advanced” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian testing. The top-rated models must also receive a score for “good” or “acceptable” standard headlights.

The CR-V Hybrid rated high across all segments determined by the IIHS, inspiring a sense of security for anybody who chooses to drive the popular SUV from Honda.
