GENEVA INT’L MOTOR SHOW CANCELLED.

The cancellation of the Geneva International Motor Show because of concerns surrounding the global Coronavirus (COVID 19) outbreak is just another way the world has had to adjust. Panic at the Stock Markets, slowed travel, and workers being sent home are just the latest in consequences.

But like the wheels that their cars, trucks and SUVs roll on, the world’s automakers continue to show off. To that end, they have moved the new vehicles and concept cars back to their headquarters, to stream the reveals live on the internet. Could this spell the end of the international auto show as we know it? We certainly hope not. But, as some famous showpeople used to say, “The show must go on.”

It has, and here’s what we’ve seen so far:

Hyundai Prophecy

Reflecting the latest Hyundai design language, the new Prophecy is a look into the future of the brand. “Prophesy is inspired by the company’s sensuous sportiness design philosophy that displays “Optimistic Futurism.” It’s a concept that focuses on the emotional link between humans and automobiles in a balance of nature, technology, emotion and practicality.

As aerodynamic as a pebble smoothed by years of flowing water, this electric vehicle is designed to flow through the wind. The smoothness also extends to the underbody, where a wide air intake is installed below the bumper to introduce fresh air to cool the batteries more effectively. Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Considered the “heart of the brand,” the 10^th-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been thoroughly updated in the lineup with refreshes on the Mercedes-Benz All-Terrain and E53 Sport Sedan. There’s more of everything, including dynamic design, with new front headlamps, taillamps, a new grille and front bumper. The new All-Terrain is visually similar to the current generation Mercedes-Benz SUVs. It rides higher and now includes a stylized skid plate with mirror chrome finish.

All models now have the standard widescreen cockpit with twin 12.3-inch color displays. Safety features have been upgraded as well and now include Active Speed Limit Assist, which uses map data from traffic sign assist to respond to changes in the speed limit. This way, route-based speed adjustment is possible ahead of bends, roundabouts, toll booths and three-way intersections.

BMW Concept i4

BMW unveiled its latest, the pure-electric Gran Coupe, at the Geneva International Motor Show. The i4, is the latest BMW which it claims takes electric drive to the core of the BMW brand and introduces a new era of Sheer Driving Pleasure. Slated for production in 2021, it blends a modern, elegant, sporty design with the spaciousness and functionality of a full four-door Gran Coupe…one that burns completely clean. Preliminary specs include approximately 530 horsepower and a zero-to-60 mph time of 4.0 seconds.

BMW touts a lot of attention to detail in the new Concept i4. There’s even a unique curved display that helps redefine BMW’s focus on the driver. On the outside, the Concept i4 features a long wheelbase, a fastback roofline and short overhang for dynamic sports sedan appeal. The future looks bright, indeed.

VW ID4 EV SUV

Firmly a part of Volkswagen’s electrification strategy, the new VW ID4 is the reality view of the VW ID CROZZ showcar. Featuring an aerodynamic shape, it will initially be available as a rear wheel drive vehicle. All-wheel-drive will be offered at a later date.

The ID4’s high-voltage battery is located near the center of the underbody, offering a low center of gravity, which provides optimal handling and drive dynamics. There’s plenty of interior space thanks to the smaller, more compact electric drivetrain.
