Debut of the Hyundai SEVEN Concept at AutoMobility LA

Hyundai Motor Company displayed their new Hyundai SEVEN Concept at the 2021 AutoMobility LA show (formerly the Los Angeles Auto Show). Listed by Hyundai as a design preview, it highlights their direction for future Sport Utility Electric Vehicles (SUEV). The SEVEN Concept is another example of Hyundai’s goal of reaching carbon-neutrality by 2045.

Hyundai SEVEN Concept revealed at Automobility LA

Hyundai SEVEN Concept: Loaded with innovation.

The Hyundai SEVEN Concept features an architecture using the Hyundai E-GMP platform that is optimized for battery electric vehicles (BEV). The interior design provides comfort for passengers with furniture-inspired seats that gives a lounge-like atmosphere to the vehicle.

The Hyundai SEVEN Concept is the latest member of Hyundai’s IONIQ family of vehicles. The IONIQ lineup is designed to be customer driven. It’s a departure from business as usual in the auto industry.

“The SEVEN concept demonstrates Hyundai’s creative vision and advanced technological development for our electrified mobility future,” said Jose Munoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motors North America. “Its innovative interior space, eco-friendly powertrain, and cutting-edge safety and convenience technologies reveal an exciting future for Hyundai SUV customers.”

Aerodynamically pure exterior with a powerful presence

SEVEN Heaven.

The Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) provides the “skateboard” platform for the new SEVEN Concept. It has a long wheelbase and flat platform floor that favors a new style of vehicle with a range of new experiences for its customers.

The SEVEN features aerodynamic enhancements that allow it to trim airflow from a typically designed SUV shape. The silhouette is unique and includes a streamlined roofline. Its long wheelbase signals a clear break from the past. An internal combustion engine is no longer necessary, presenting designers with a blank slate on which to build. This blank slate has allowed the Hyundai designers to flourish and innovate.

Hyundai SEVEN Concept from above.

One innovation is the distinctive wheels that feature active air flaps to cool the brakes or retract entirely for reduced drag. Another is the IONIQ’s familiar Parametric Pixel lighting. The pixels are a design thread that links digital to analog and reminds buyers that designers considered every aspect of SEVEN’S design right down to a single pixel.

A lounge-like interior in the Hyundai SEVEN Concept.

The interior of the Hyundai SEVEN Concept offers an innovative space with greater freedom for passengers than before. The SEVEN’s wheelbase measures 126 inches, thanks to designers pushing the wheels out as far as physically possible. The resulting flat floor allows designers to go further than just create a row-based layout. Pillarless coach doors provide a wide welcome to the interior that includes seating like a premium lounge complete with swiveling lounge chairs and curved bench seats. The seating is variable, depending on whether in a driver-controlled or autonomous driving mode.

The SEVEN has a universal island console designed for home appliances and a multi-functional Smart Hub. A mini-refrigerator keeps chilled drinks close at hand and even a shoe-care compartment is included to refresh passengers’ footwear (!). The Smart Hub and front seats combine with the rear chaise lounge seating. This makes the SEVEN a retreat for time alone or with others.

The Hyundai SEVEN Concept provides an excellent driving range and ultra-fast charging capabilities. It has a target range of more than 300 miles which is more than a typical driver will do in a day. In the real world, using a 350 kW charger, the SEVEN can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.

Power to the people.

The Hyundai SEVEN Concept

The Hyundai SEVEN Concept is a look at what could be. The SEVEN Concept is a glimpse of what Hyundai has up its sleeves. The end product may not look exactly like this, but it will give you an idea of what the designers and engineers at Hyundai are plotting for a carbon-neutral future.
