The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited

Loaded with features, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited is no ordinary econobox. Instead, it’s a high-mileage compact four-door sedan capable of hauling 5 passengers up to 440 miles per tankful of gas. Like the Elantra Hybrid, we at Napleton News are in it for the long haul. So hop aboard and let’s hit the road.

What is the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited all about?

2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited’s new grille.

In a nutshell, the Elantra Hybrid is the high-mileage sibling to the brand’s wildly popular compact sedan. Powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a 32 kW permanent magnet synchronous-electric motor. The combo adds up to deliver 139 total horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque for approximately 49 miles city/52 highway mpg. Power hits the pavement via the Elantra Hybrid’s front wheel drive package. To help it shift, there’s a six-speed automatic transmission that feels as it would in a standard internal combustion engine platform.

Our only wish would be for some extra power, courtesy of a turbocharger, perhaps?

There are two grades of Hyundai Elantra Hybrid models:

  • The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue model: A so-called entry model, it is clearly anything but. It includes the 1.6-liter Smartstream engine delivers smooth responsive acceleration.
  • The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited model: Steps up with an integrated memory system, Hyundai digital key and H-Tex leatherette seating with heating and ventilation.

How does the new Elantra Hybrid look?

While the new Hyundai Elantra received a re-do in 2023, the new 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited has received an update once again. Like the standard Elantra, the Hybrid continues with its sharp, Zorro-like creasing along the side panels. Up front, the Hybrid has a look that places it in the general family of the Hyundai Sonata with its full-width lightbar across the grille.

Otherwise, the only other differentiation between the standard and Hybrid models is the smallish “hybrid” badge. It’s located on the lower trunklid. Its look declares that the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited doesn’t need to look radical to be good.

Inside accommodations of the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Surprisingly accommodating, the new Hyundai Elantra Hybrid can fit five in a jam but we think four is a better number. That way there’s no bumping up against each other in the backseat. But if needed, three can sit shoulder-to-shoulder in a pinch.

If we are to speak about seating, rider’s backsides were subjected to some of the finest synthetic leathers from synthetic cows in these United States. That way, the Elantra Hybrid doesn’t smell like the interior of a Ford F150 King Ranch pickup truck.

Our Elantra Hybrid Limited offers a split folding rear seat with 14.2 cubic feet of cargo space. It’s the same amount found in the standard, non-hybrid model. That’s because in this Hybrid the batteries are located under the rear seat rather than under the trunk floor.

The Elantra Hybrid Limited on the road.

There’s an old saying that goes that “it’s much better to drive a slow car fast, rather than a fast car slow.” The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited isn’t exactly a “slow car” but by its Hybrid nature, it isn’t exactly an autobahn burner, either. Expect a 0-to-60 mph jaunt taking just over eight and a half seconds. Well, 8.7 seconds, to be exact.

Like the model we tested in late 2023, the 2024 Elantra Hybrid does move you, eventually, but at a leisurely pace, to be sure. The saving grace of the leisurely pace (A poet and I didn’t even know it) is that this hybrid engine package is delivering around 52 miles per gallon. That’s a number you can’t shake a stick at.

The Elantra Hybrid in profile.

The ride in the Elantra Hybrid was smooth and possibly even luxurious! That’s partially due to the quiet cabin of the Elantra and the lack of CVT drone while driving. Instead, there is an honest-to-gawd six-speed automatic transmission to make this thing move. The multi-link rear suspension deserves some of the credit for this smooth ride, as well.
