Long known for being Dog-tested, Dog-approved, Subaru takes it a huge step further with their first-ever Subaru’s National Make A Dog’s Day celebration on October 22. The dog-friendly brand thinks that some of its four-legged friends haven’t been getting a fair shake lately and is working to make that right.
Subaru of America announced the return of its Subaru Loves Pets initiative, and dedicating the month of October, through a continuing partnership with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Together, they are working to help the nearly 3.3-million dogs ending up in shelters each year to find a safe, loving home.
Subaru’s long-standing love of pets is another part of the Subaru Love Promise. Because of that, they have named October 22 as the first-ever National Make A Dog’s Day and along with their retailers, including Subaru of Wyoming Valley, will sponsor a nationwide effort to help find homes for the hardest-to-adopt shelter animals. With assistance from the ASPCA, Subaru will champion special needs dogs, specifically seniors (!), amputees, visually and hearing-impaired dogs and dogs with birth defects and special physical challenges.

We have linked a few of the latest, titled “Honk” and “Lunch Stop” here. “While we support efforts all year dedicated to the betterment of animals’ lives, in October, we make a concerted effort to help shelter pets, particularly the hard-to-adopt ones – find loving homes,” said Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing, for Subaru of America.
In addition to the Subaru “Spokesdogs,” the Barkleys on their latest adventures, the company has introduced a set of advertising spots entitled “The Underdogs,” featuring those pets needing the most help getting adopted. Along the way, the commercials debunk some of the issues with disabled pets but go on to celebrate some of their unique charms.
Consumers are encouraged to do something special for their pets during October and post photos of their pets to social media outlets with the hashtag #MakeADogsDay.
